Making time to celebrate

For many, July is associated with celebration and graduations. Whether from school or university, people collect certificates, taking photos with loved ones, and celebrating years of hard work. It’s a wonderful reminder that achievements deserve to be recognised, and they really do! Such a lot of hard work goes into getting a qualification and that hard work should be celebrated.

It also got me thinking about the milestones that don’t come with ceremonies, or big parties, and more the things we achieve quietly, the goals we work towards behind the scenes, and the challenges we overcome that nobody else necessarily sees.

Celebrating the small wins

It’s easy to wait until we’ve achieved something big before allowing ourselves to feel proud. To celebrate once we’ve finished the project, reached the goal, or completed the next step. Life is made of smaller moments than that!

Maybe you’ve learned a new skill this year, started a creative hobby, built confidence in something that once felt intimidating, put yourself forward for an opportunity, or made time for yourself when life felt busy. These things deserve celebrating too!

At this time, I’m reflecting on some of Community In Print’s own milestones this year. From workshops and exhibitions, to speaking at the Confia Illustration Conference, there have been opportunities that felt completely out of reach not so long ago.

It’s a reminder that progress often happens gradually, one small step at a time!

The power of recognition

One of the things I love most about cards is that they create opportunities to acknowledge those moments.

Simply, a thoughtful card can say:

‘I’m proud of you.’

‘You’ve worked hard.’

‘You’ve come a long way.’

‘I’m thinking of you.’

Those messages don’t need a special occasion to be meaningful. Sometimes an unexpected handwritten note can mean just as much as receiving one for a milestone event. In a word of quick messages and notifications, take the tie to choose and send a card, and make someone feel that extra bit special.

A gentle reminder

Whether you’re celebrating a graduation this month or simply reflecting on your own journey this year, I hope you take a moment to recognise how far you’ve come. Not every achievement comes with a certificate. Not every milestone is visible to others. But that doesn’t make it any less worth celebrating.
